Man of Steel (2013) Review

Verdict: Pretty awesome

An action-packed film with great cinematography and a story-line that also managed to make me tear up. Predictable plot though.

The planet Krypton has expired and before its implosion, Jor-El (Russell Crowe) and his wife Lara (Ayelet Zurer) sends their son Kal-El (Henry Cavill) to another planet to save the Krypton race. And that planet is Earth. He is brought up by Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner) and Martha Kent (Diane Lane). When he is 33, he finally embodies who he is and what he is meant to be/do. Love of his life Lois Lane is played by Amy Adams and nemesis General Zod by Michael Shannon.

The overall plot was alright; pretty average to be honest. However they added the emotional element in it with the father and his moral code and all, and that made it much better. I teared up when I saw how the father (human) died. Henry Cavill plays his role really well- props to him. Him and Dylan Sprayberry who plays 13 year old Clark, looks really similar to Tom Welling, the Smallville Superman. Sprayberry (I’m sorry but what kind of surname is that?) more than Cavill, but still its there at some angles.

(Kays, I think its them cheekbones)

The effects and the action were really well done. However, the stupid thing with the Americans not knowing what they’re dealing with and just attacking everyone…is a bit overdone. I’m kind of tired of that whole ‘scenario’ where they blindly attack everything that they are unsure of. Pretty annoying since it appears in quite a lot of the superhero movies…though it might be accurate in life. *shrugs
Ironic that its coming from the country that does it…hmm

OK anyways apart from that annoying detail, the film overall was really well made and edited and all that. Amy Adams did a good job, but she didn’t really have a huge part or rather she didn’t make much of an impression, except for kissing Superman. (Speaking of that scene, did she get a nose job? There’s a considerably obvious part at the front of her nose that is…a different shade than the rest) I was also thinking Henry Cavill was pretty average, but then at the end when he screams/shouts(?), it sent chills down my spine and that gave him my respect.

I give this an 8/10. To be honest, I didn’t feel any umph because I guess, the plot was predictable. But it was pretty awesome overall.
