In the first few minutes of the film, Dodge (Steeve Carell) finds out that its going to be the end of the world in three weeks and to top it off, his wife leaves him as soon as that information comes in. [Fun fact: Linda, who plays Dodge’s wife in the first few seconds is actually Carell’s real life wife.]
Anyways he embarks on a journey with Penny (Keira Knightley), his neighbor from downstairs whom he’s only just been acquainted with and together they help each other to fulfill their respective goals; him to meet his high-school sweetheart, Olivia, and her to meet up with her parents. They find themselves to be unlikely friends although if the end of the world were not happening, they probably would have lived the rest of their lives never knowing one another.
That’s why this movie is quite unique and has a good story. It tells of a time in which different people find different ways to spend the rest of their lives when they know the end is near. But the thing is, we never really know when the end is coming and so should not live any differently from our normal lives. Yes. Not that I do that, I don’t know.
But yea, on the other hand though the film was touching and had some humor, the film overall was a bit flat for me. It was just kind of like a straight road; they go from here to there and then there, very predictable and not really any climax.
So I give this a 6/10.
