Alice (Marisa Tomei) and Phil Simmons (Tom Everett Scott) have to go away for the weekend for one of Phil’s work events. A weekend alone in 5 years. They ask Alice’s parents (Billy Crystal and Bette Midler) to take care of their 3 kids while they are gone. However things do not really go as plan when the kids and the grandparents know different ways of parenting.
I went into this movie not expecting to come out feeling like I did. Because when I watched the trailer above on youtube, there were comments that were saying this movie was not so good. To each his/her own I guess.
This family comedy had me laughing and even crying at one part (One tear rolled down my cheek, that only happens to me with films about dogs – ish). At the part that I teared was when one of the kids was making a speech in front of an audience. It wasn’t even his own words but just that moment made me tear. I don’t even know why. Emotions, aargh!
And even though the writing was average and sometimes the acting was average, it had more good moments than bad. It was also engaging and the antics of the kids were hilarious.
So luckily I managed to watch this today, there probably won’t be anymore reviews for some time. I’m starting classes again next week.
So I rate this an 8/10.
